Season-Best Result for Miller at Winton

Jason Miller has brought the Stokes Skis Australia Racing Mitsubishi Evo IX home for its best result of the season, finishing fifth outright in Race 1, Round 3 of the Australian Production Car Series at Winton today.

Miller thoroughly enjoyed the wet weather conditions during yesterday’s practice sessions – he was the fastest driver for the day – but some challenges with car setup in the dry led to him qualifying eighth outright this morning.

“In the wet, the car was excellent but we were struggling with some understeer in qualifying, which restricted our opportunity to set a fast time over a single lap,” Miller said.

In the race, Miller set about charging forward and was up to sixth after the first two laps, and into the top five by lap 18. The rest of the two hour (74 lap) race was fairly straightforward, Miller taking his single pit stop under a Safety Car on lap 50.

“The Safety Car came out at pretty much the perfect time for us, as we were planning to make our pit stop around then anyway,” Miller said.

“Overall, we’re very happy with how the day played out – the car was consistent and reliable, and I think we achieved the best-possible result today, considering we don’t quite have the straight-line speed of the cars that beat us.

“Hopefully we can repeat the result tomorrow, or if there’s some rain we might be able to go even better!”

The second two-hour race will be held at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon, and live streamed via the Shannons Nationals website.
