Young Formula Ford racer Tom Sargent says traffic management will be a key factor for this weekend’s third round of the NSW Formula Ford Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park.
A massive 34-car field is entered for the race meeting, which doubles as a round of the NSW Historic Formula Ford Championship. A number of national series competitors are also set to participate in the outright Duratec Class, setting up the prospect of a large speed difference between cars.
“We’ll be a fair bit quicker than the historic cars, and there’s a chance we’ll be lapping them in the races,” Sargent said.
“It’s a tricky situation, because those cars are having their own battles but those of us in the outright class be fighting amongst ourselves as well.
“It will be important to make the best decision on the track, and avoid unnecessary contact with the slower cars.”
After the first two rounds of the series, Sargent sits fifth in the standings after a solid start to the year, highlighted by a second-place finish in his debut race.
“We’ve shown encouraging speed and it’s been good working with my driver coach, Cameron Hill – I’ve been learning a lot from him,” he said.
“In the last round at Wakefield Park, it was good to finish in the top 10 against all the national series runners, and I’m looking forward to racing against some of them again this weekend.”
This weekend’s Formula Ford round features qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday, followed by Races 2 and 3 on Sunday.
