15-year-old Formula Ford racer Lachlan Mineeff is looking forward to racing on home turf, when he competes in this weekend’s third round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at Wakefield Park.
Of all the circuits on the calendar, Wakefield Park is by far the most familiar for Mineeff, who has completed a number of test days at the venue, along with competing in NSW Formula Ford races and an endurance event in the Australian Pulsar Racing Series last year.
“I’m really excited for my local round at Wakefield Park, it’s a track where I’ve done plenty of laps and where I’m comfortable,” Mineeff said.
“The first two rounds of this year’s series have been up-and-down but we’re still inside the top 10 in the points; this weekend we’ll be looking to take advantage of our track knowledge.
“We tested recently at Wakefield and we were punching out some good times, so hopefully that translates to strong qualifying and racing speed this weekend.”
A total of 36 Formula Fords are entered for the meeting, and Mineeff says traffic management will be a major factor.
“In qualifying, it will be important to get a clear lap, and it won’t be easy with so many cars jam-packed into such a short circuit,” he said.
Mineeff will also be bolstered by some local supporters this weekend.
“Because this is my home round, some family friends will be coming to the track to show their support, and also one of my sponsors, Race Stars Simulators and Slot Cars Bowral will be coming along, so hopefully I can put on a show and deliver some results for those guys.”
Mineeff and his team have attracted the support of a number of sponsors, and are also continuing to seek commercial support for his journey towards becoming a professional racing driver. Interested parties are advised to make contact via Lachlan’s Facebook page.
The weekend will consist of qualifying and three races, with Sunday’s races to be live streamed.
