Debut Bathurst Class Win for Boss Surveillance Racing

Boss Surveillance Mercedes C63 AMG drivers Karl Begg and Justin Anthony are ecstatic after winning Class A2 and finishing sixth outright in their Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour debut today.

Starting ninth on the grid, Begg took advantage of the C63’s straight-line performance to move inside the top five in the early laps, and running as high as second outright before a brief red-flag interruption.

When the race resumed, Begg was forced to pit under green flag conditions due to feeling unwell in the car, and the team lost a lap to their main class rivals.

However, consistent speed and clever strategy allowed Begg and Anthony to recover the lost lap, and they fought their way back to the class lead inside the final hour.

Both drivers were elated with the result in their first attempt at the Bathurst 6 Hour.

“It was just an awesome weekend, and exceeded all our expectations,” Begg said.

“We lost some time early in the race when I was feeling ill in the car, but we were able to get a lap back when we did another one of our pit stops under Safety Car later on.

“Once I took some medication I felt a lot better and was able to get back into the car.

“After that, we had the straight-line performance to catch and pass the class leader and once we were in front, we concentrated on preserving the car and bringing it home in one piece.”

Anthony was also overjoyed with the result.

“It was the longest event the car had done, and I think some people were doubting it would go the distance – we surpassed everyone’s predictions today.

“A massive thank you to everyone in the team for their work on the car, and to Boss Surveillance for supporting our campaign.”

The next event for Boss Surveillance Racing will be the Queensland Production Car round at Lakeside next weekend.

“Next weekend we’ll be competing in sprint races, which will feel very short compared to what we have just been through!” Begg said.

“Our performance this weekend is the ideal foundation to set up the rest of our season – we’ll also be competing in some of the Australian Production Car Series events including the Queensland night race in July and the Phillip Island 6 Hour in November.”
