Bates: “Revised Format a Sensible Decision”

KFC/Moveitnet/C-Tech Laser/B&B/Local Roadways Audi R8 driver Tony Bates has given a thumbs-up to the Australian GT Championship management’s decision to reschedule the start of this weekend’s Tailem Bend endurance race until tomorrow.

The race, originally set to start this afternoon, was postponed due to inclement weather conditions. The race length has now been set at two hours and 40 minutes, and will be held on the 4.95km International Circuit rather than the 7.7km GT Circuit.

“There have been massive sandstorms and a lot of rain over the last few days, and the visibility was severely limited in some parts of the track,” Bates said.

“I agree with the category’s decision to revise the race format, as did all the other drivers.”

Bates and co-driver Daniel Gaunt will start ninth on the grid, following today’s two qualifying sessions in which grid positions were determined by averaging both drivers’ lap times.

“Dan and I have been working well together, and if we can circulate at a consistent pace, there’s no reason we can’t finish towards the pointy end,” Bates concluded.

The new start time for the rescheduled GT race will be 10:25am tomorrow (10:55am Eastern Time).  The race will be live streamed via the Shannons Nationals website and shared on the Tony Bates Racing Facebook page.
